More than 500 trees were planted in the ‘lung’ of Gurgaon, Aravali Oxyvan on 16th of August, 2022. This initiative was organised in collaboration with the ‘Iamgurgaon’ NGO.
Mining in the Aravalis has led to massive degradation of the range. It is essential to regenerate the area with indigenous species so as to allow for recharging of groundwater as well as to protect the area from long term environmental degradation.
This plantation drive regenerated the soil with native species such as Dhok, Dhak and Babool.
The hundreds of trees planting was made possible by Avi Chopra, a grade XII student, who raised $5000 donation from a US based Foundation for the cause. His donation facilitated the tree plantation drive where the Environment and Social Initiatives departments of the Student Council led more than 160 students of grade 6 in lending a helping hand to nourish our city’s environment.
The children, who are the future of this country, were encouraged to take such steps in working toward a greener and cleaner city of Gurgaon.
